Redbus Outage

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 17:28, 1/3/2005 |

So Redbus' facility at Harbour Exchange suffered a massive power failure at around 10:30am. It appears that a bank of UPSs "exploded", which took power down on at least two floors and may have required an evacuation of staff.

This took down a good chunk of the great and the good in the UK, and as it's the third such outage in about as many months there are a lot of annoyed companies out there. So our little outage, caused not by a downed server but by a lack of network connectivity to the office, wasn't exactly a priority to the Redbus staff. Grr.

Redbus staff unplugged everyone's power to stop a surge when the power came back up. Apparently one company's stuff didn't come back up because they then plugged his power strip back in to itself.
