Thunderbird ported to RISC OS

Posted by Andrew Duffell on 11:33, 31/1/2007 | , ,

Peter Naulls has ported Mozilla Thunderbird to RISC OS. The port of the popular open source email client which is developed by the same people as Firefox will only work on IYONIX, A9 and Omega computers. Peter also stresses that it is "not fully functional, and is intended only for show".

The port can be downloaded from Peter's Firefox web page.

Since no bug reports are allowed, has anyone got this working? The program gets into an infinite loop, similar to the one Firefox 2.0 r1/2 gets into if a valid profile cannot be found in UnixHome. Since this is the first "release" of Thunderbird for RISC OS, I don't have a profile lying around.

2 ways to solve this problem:

1)- the dirty one:
Just copy the contents of <ChoicesWrite>.Mozilla.Firefox to <ChoicesWrite>.Thunderbird

2) If you have a PC and Thunderbird on it copy the profile settings from your PC to <choicesWrite>.Thunderbird
Profiles on your PC are stored in Documents and Settings/your name/Application Data/Thunderbird/profiles

(modify profiles/ini on the RISC OS side so it points to the right direction.)

Thunderbird does work on my A9home.
- It has the firefox icon on your iconbar
- Info says it IS firefox :)
- writing mail is not possible

Sometimes Thunderbird won't start (error about missing template) - just start Firefox v.2 then quit FF2 and try thunderbird again.
Most of the times Thunderbird will start.

Aaah, I tried this, but I expect the choices are no longer held in UnixHome, and are in !Boot.Choices instead.

Sure enough, I got the missing template error.

Started Firefox, and now it works. Thanks!
