As far as I can see, shading (greying out) sprite-only icons in RISC OS 5.17 has no visible effect.

Can anyone confirm that this is the case, and that I'm not just doing something stupid? If it's not just me, I'll put something up on ROOL requesting that it be looked at - seems an odd omission.

Also, are there any workarounds for this? I have an app I'm working on which has a lot of sprite icons that occasionally need to be greyed out - it would be nice to find a way of indicating this properly.

Don't use sprite only icons?

I don't think there's a sensible way of doing that, in this case. I'm updating an app that makes use of lots of sprite buttons. It would have been nice to be able to shade them when functions weren't available, but it's not essential.

I was trying to allude to the possibility of using a sprite + text indirected icon, but not specifying any text.
