Just in case someone has missed all the other announcements, a reminder that the next ROUGOL meeting on Monday 15th October is Paul Fellows, who was the development team leader on Arthur/RISC OS at Acorn.
Paul will be speaking about what happened to the planned ARX operating system, and how the failure of that project led to the creation of Arthur and then RISC OS.

Any chance of a transcript/recording/video of this one? That sounds fascinating, but the commute from "up north" is a bit of a killer. |

Can you ask him if he know anything about the micro OS Galileo that Acorn were going to 'ship in the next year' at the end? |

By the looks of things, Paul had left Acorn long before that, Chris. Paul's involvement was in the early era of RISC OS (probably up to RISC OS 3, roughly), and in supporting libraries, resources, compilers and so on.
In many ways it overlaps with Sophie's experiences (although she was involved for much longer), but I think whereas Sophie was doing "a bit of everything" (especially hardware-wise), Paul's involvement was in managing the OS development and tools, which is/are something we all still use/love and therefore (potentially) very interesting.

Glad to see lots of interest in this! We'll see what we can do about recording it.
BTW, I don't usually post ROUGOL announcements on here, assuming they will have been seen on csa.announce, but is that still true these days?
So out of interest, who read my message above and hadn't heard about it before?
Also would anyone object if I did post announcements every month? Maybe the forum needs a separate category for this sort of thing so the other user groups can put their meeting details up too. |

I for one hadn't heard about this before, I'm not much of a usenet follower anymore so I these things completely evade me.
I wouldn't mind an announcement every now and then even though I'm hardly ever going to have a chance to be at these meetings (living in Sweden) but it's nice to see what's going on. |

Judging by what I've seen, I'd say that only maybe a third of the current regulars here actually follow - or even know about the existence of - the csa* groups. |

I was hoping to find a web interface to the usenet groups other than Google Groups, I'd like to avoid getting a usenet client if at all possible. |

I know it's only a couple of hours away, but if you can record it in some way, I think it would be very popular. Even a dodgy smartphone video would be better than nothing. Or even just audio. Hope you can do it. |

In the event that a recording of the talk and pictures of the slides never make it online, I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that it was a wonderful, enlightening and amusing experience which I'm dead pleased to have been at when all you poor bastards weren't. |
