Star Fighter 3000+ Patch

Posted by Keith McKillop on 17:00, 7/9/2000 | ,

Following our news article a few months ago, Chris Bazley has made the first release of his Star Fighter 3000+ Patch. The patch is aimed at fixing one or two bugs/features in SF3000, such as:
  • Fixing key problems by redefining default keys.
  • Hills always appear on the map.
  • Increase of the object 'pop-up' distance.
  • Engine Sound fix for Risc PCs.
  • RISC OS 4 compatibility.
  • Copy protection removed.

The screenshot on the left shows how the original Starfighter 3000 looks, the shot on the right shows how it looks with the patch applied. Already you can see extra detail in the background, which would provide a tactical advantage in not flying into unforseen hills if nothing else.

However, Chris has been unable to solve the StrongARM compatibility issues, but he says that Release 2 will solve these problems, so keep a look out. He also mentions that it may be possible to continue the development of the ARM Code version of SF3000, or even a port of the 3DO version to produce a RISC OS commercial sequel to Star Fighter 3000. Watch this space, but don't be too surprised if neither surface, since they would require a lot of work on Chris' part!

The patch and other SF3000 related information is available from the Star Fighter 3000 Web Home, hosted by Acorn Arcade at http://starfighter.acornarcade.com/
