Rather than introducing italic smileys, why not remove the italicisation of quoted text altogether?

They're in a blockquoted style anyway, and italicising the text results in any original emphasis being lost. (An alternative would be to retain italicising but toggle it off as appropriate to preserve emphasis.) Am I missing some obvious explanation somewhere (other than a few posts potentially making little sense in retrospect)?
