Yes, I have. I've notified all the main web-sites with information when I had it, got SF3000 re-released, got Chaos Engine released, helping various people/groups with their projects and I've kept EMD news up-to-date.

Can I have one, please?

3d engine eh??
what 3D engines are around in the RiscOS market???
For example, what happened to TBAs TAG engine, and the many others that appeared (and disappeared unhappy )
Wouldnt the answer (if there are not any adaptable engines at the moment) be to either get VOTI all together, or a group of RiscOS programmers to build a new 3D engine that could be supported all over the RiscOS market??
I can understand that it isnt easy, but considering there isnt any other engines avaliable then it could also make VOTI a fair bit of money from games produced using it, and of course liciensing the engine out to other developers.
If a 3D engine could be produced, with a map/world editor & a texture/model editor then ur problems of wanting a 3D engine are sorted.
(please no-one kill me for saying the bit about writing a 3D engine tongue)

The expertise to do this I suspect is in the form of demo. groups or people or don't care to discuss on this forum.
Therefore we have no idea as to what such demo. groups are doing and if they have the organisation necessary to do something like this.

I don't have the know-how at the moment to start to do something like this so I'm working on 2D therefore I'm sorry but I can't help here or else I would. I'd think I'd still want to do any such work with the definite target-game in mind that I'd thought of though.

I meant I'd want to use the 3d routines as part of a game I were working on.

It's just that Nathan keeps making us guilty about not providing him with such a set of routines :-)

As you say Mark though, we'd also need a map/world editor and a model editor to go with them.

TAG is available (full source code) on the TBA Collection CD from R-Comp. Note this is TAG 1.5 not TAG 2 (ie the engine Martin Piper and co were working on). I don't know where any developer would stand in terms of copyright if they were to use the code.

As for Nathan making people feel guilty...I thought that was his job cool

Merry Christmass everyone cool

1) Is the DFI one. Paul Thomson got a coding job and hasn't any time to complete the engine, only him could finish it off.
2) Graphical demos aren't a pre-runner for 3D engines. Demo writers hardly ever create decent games. The only other decent engine that *was* in the pipeline was Scorpion but that's dead.

I was also told to avoid TAG with my life.

right then, we better get writing a new, fully working, easily understandable 3D engine then. smile
(unless anyone else can find any other posiblities)

Who is we grin

IS the Quake engine up for some customisation - I mean there is a racing game mod that uses it - surely it could be polished or something. It's not like we have the machines capable of anything more advanced.

[edit]Why can't the grin smiley be :E like on GP[/edit]

AARRGHH.

THOU SHALT NOT MODIFY THE QUAKE ENGINE!

What we need is an engine designed for Acorns, so it runs at a decent speed.
And don't try and tell me how good the Quake engine is, because I just won't accept that it can't be made to run any faster than it does now.

As for a 3D model/world editor for our own engine, those could either be free programs from the net (so our engine would work to some standard format), or could be an in-house program which is used to test the engine with.

Also, as a side note, don't you think someone should make a browser/forum that accepts loads of things like [rant],[edit],[bitch], etc, showing them in a different style?

hmmmm modifying Quake would be the easiest way, but it certainly cant be used in the long term.
I agree that we need an in-house RiscOS 3D engine, specifically designed for Acorns, (hence the possibility of breaking the AcornQuake record of FPS tongue)
even with modifiying Quake there are a lot of flaws & problems in the engine anyway, and would require PC programming knowledge rather than RiscOS, meaning that a PC version of the Game/Engine will appear for Windows so no-one will buy the RiscOS version unhappy

What about the Iron Dignity engine?

The ID engine is heavily tied to the game and Artex wouldn't exactly want another ID version floating about.

mail TBA for more details - or look around their website for more info (acornsearch.com would be best to look for pages as the TBA site has mainly been closed & there are no links on the homepage)

TBA Software don't exist anymore. As I've already stated TAG 1 is available on the TBA Collections CD from R-Comp. I believe Tim has posted a link.

If you want to hack it (or even write a game with it) you really need to know your ARM code.
