Could anybody tell me how to use Amiga game images with the UAE emulator? They have the extension 'rar'. Do they need to be filetyped and do the Amiga Roms need to be acquired and filetyped?
If so, how?

Regards,

Andrew

If they have the RAR extension they are compressed in the RAR format. You will need to obtain a RISC OS version of unrar... I know there is a version out there I just can't remember the URL. If all else fails email me and I'll send you a copy.

Once they are uncompressed you will need to filetype the resultant ADF files (&0BD). The only ROM you need is the kickstart 3.1 ROM (which are not very challenging to find on the web)... a useful URL is :
http://www.commodorehistory.com/Amigaemu.html

There are excellent Amiga game resources on the web such as :

http://www.back2roots.org

Hope that helps.

Yes thanks David.
I cannot get the UnRar program (AcornSearched) to work even with Cache off though. Where do I put the rar files? I have o set the CSD as the directory containing Unrar but I don't know about the archives.

Errr... what happens ?

I only seem to have my own build of unrar on my drive. If you copy the unrar executable to the same place as the rar files. Then run :

unrar x <file>

I find this the easiest way to get it to work, but then I don't deal with many rar files. Alternatively if you are going to deal with loads of rar files put unrar in the location of your run$path (or add it to the list) and just set your CSD to the location of the files. then call the above command. If you get no joy with that email me at home and I will send you my build of unrar, which definately works on SA machines with RISC OS 4.

When I *unrar I get the message:
<file>.adf: unknown method
No files
*

the program works by turning the cache off and is version 1.00e of Unrar.

Thanks for the help David but I can't connect to the ftp server on which it's supposed to be on. I'll mail them.

it would be much wiser, using the 1.3 KickROM instead 3.1. There are many good games which only run on Kick 1.3, the UAE on RiscPC doesn't support any of the 3.1 key features either (8bit AGA graphics).

I've unrar'd the archives and I'm ready to filetype them.
Do you know how I load the game of the archive?
UAE presents you with an image of a floppy disc moving into the drive as I think the Amiga's did.

regards

Andrew

IIRC there is a configuration option where you can 'put' disk images into drives. If it is a single disk game just stick it in drive 1 and it should work. Multi-disk games may work with each disk in a different drive, however some you have to go back to desktop and use the change disk option.
The games may take a while to start up... so be patient ;-)

There are numerous files. Do I just put everything in there and the emulator looks for an accepted startup file?

If you can drop me a mail telling me which files you are dealing and how you've got it set up I will be able to help you out.
As it stands I'm a bit bemused as to what you are doing...

I'm unrar-ing an archive and I want to play the game that comprised that archive. So when the unarchived files are filetyped by me, what do I do?
Dragging them all to the disc configuration field in the configuration window does not seem to dfo anything.

regards,

Andrew

I'm just guessing here, but does Andrew have the game files separate but the emulator needs them in a disk image? If so then you'll have to look for an amiga disc image editor.
