Gary, one thing not to do is worry to much about the RISC OS front end. If the speed of browser and functionality in terms of HTML, CSS and Javascript is all there, I for one(and I'm sure most others) can live with a either a windows/linux(similar to the early Firefox ports) style RISC OS front end, or even just a none feature rich RISC OS style front end. |

Paul, at the moment, I'm not thinking about the front end at all, my priority is just to see if I can get it to build under GCCSDK. I'm working on getting GCCSDK working under Cygwin, which is slow going but I'm getting there.
I want to make it clear though that I've almost no time to dedicate to this, and I'm making no promises that I won't just give up in a week or so, I just wanted to see if anyone had already tried and failed as I don't want to duplicate work pointlessly.
With Origyn, I think if it can be ported to the Amiga, and SDL front-end exists, then I think there is at least a decent chance that it could be make to work on RISC OS.
And for the record, I'm not bothered about RPC compatibility, the future for RISC OS , if indeed there is one, is clearly in netbooks/smartbooks, so it's those Origyn needs to work on. |

Thanks for your support, only thing is, I can't get GCCSDK to work! (Talk about falling at the first hurdle) Do you know of any Cygwin packages for GCCSDK? I found a link on Drobe, but it was broken.
If it's best to build under Linux, that's fine, but I'll need to find some time install a Linux on my laptop, and also I'd rather use Windows as that's where VirtualAcorn is and I don't want to be rebooting all the time.
I've also got a Mac if I'm better of with that for Cygwin? |

You're quite right, I thought of that soon after I posted and realized that persevering with Cygwin was probably a waste of time, so I've got an Ubuntu image downloading right now... |

Although building GCCSDK from source should just work under Cygwin. Just set it off going before you go for your dinner. |

In the end I got Ubuntu running in VirtualBox, I'm now at the point where the example of wget is building, apparently successfully.
I gave up on Cygwin after some problems with guile, and some Googling which indicated it was not trivial to fix. Next job will be to see how to build something not in the autobuilder of GCCSDK.
I must say I've been pleasantly surprised by GCCSDK, it's been made to be fairly simple, considering the complex task it's achieving. |
